Bhagavad Gita Study- A call to the world

This is an attempt at taking the teachings of Srimad Bhagavad Gita, to the world at large irrespective of Religion, Location and belief.

The messages of Gita are timeless and they are relevant forever. the Indian Philosophy which has seen great heights, has identified four as the achievable in this world (also called as purushArthas). They are Dharma (righteousness), Artha(material prosperity), Kama (fulfilment of desire) and Moksha.

The scriptures that deal with these Purushartas are called as ‘Shastras’. Hence we have ‘Dharma Shastra’, Artha Shastra’, ‘Kama Shastra’ and ‘Moksha Shastra’ respectively. A classic Tamil poem collection called “Thirukkural’ is worth mentioning here. This immortal book, written by Thiruvalluvar, deals with the first three , i.e., Dharma , Artha, and Kama. Moksha is implied and in the entire work.

Gita belong to the Moksha Shastra category. It deals with the sole purpose of liberating man from the bondages of birth and death which are as old as creation itself. Hence it is a special scripture. All the saints who have praised Gita have remarked that Gita is the combined nectar of the four Vedas (Rig, yajur, Sama and Atharvana) and all the Upanishads.

There is a sloka

sarvopanishado gAvo dogdhA gopAlanandana: |

pArtho vatsa: sudheer bhoktA, dughdam geetamrutam mahat|

(All the Upanishads are likened to the Cows, the milkman is Krishna, Arjuna is the calf and the wise are the drinkers and the nectar of Gita is the milk)

Arjuna is an instrument for us all for the nectar of Gita to flow from Sri Krishna , God Himself in this earth, five thousand years ago. Gita has seen more than 20, 000 commentaries and continues to be still unexplored fully. It is Krishna who can be the ultimate Acharya and commentator for His words. it is by knowing Him that we can know his words.

Gita is not separate from Krishna. The last messages of Krishna to us is unconditional surrender- Pure Saranagati.
