Compare this with the Arjuna who entered the battle field confidently and raised his weapon on seeing his foes ! He is totally in the grip of illusory forces. Was Krishna&#8217;s ploy of making Arjuna see both his and enemy forces the reason for Arjuna&#8217;s plight ?</span></p>

This is the first chapter named Arjuna Vishada Yoga ( Arjuna&#8217;s despondency) of Srimad Bhagavad Gita, the upanishad, the study of brahman, the yoga sastra, which is a conversation between Sri Krishna and Arjuna.</span></p>

<p class="sanskrt"><span style="font-size:14pt;" lang="PT-BR">Bhagavad-  Consummate wealth(sampoorna Iswaryam), righteousness( Dharma), Pride, fame, wisdom (gnanam), detachment ( vairagyam) are the six qualites that combine to form Bhagam. Since they always are with this work it is ` Bhagavad&#8217;</span></p>

<p class="sanskrt"><span style="font-size:14pt;" lang="PT-BR">A person sings when he is happy. Bhagavan also sang this in happiness. Hence it is `Gita&#8217;. As per Sanskrit grammar, it must have been `Gitam&#8217;. Since this is the essence of the upanishads, it is called in the female gender as `Gita&#8217;. ( in Sanskrit , even non living things have gender)</span></p>

<p class="sanskrt"><span style="font-size:14pt;" lang="PT-BR">Since it teaches the ultimate truth without discrimination on varna, ashrama, ways( saiva, vaishnava, saktha etc), it is `Brahma Vidya&#8217;</span></p>

He is now onto that platform of lower mortals from where he says that this war is for a piece of land and that is , in turn for pleasures ! He has forgotten why his mother ordered him and his brothers to fight. He has forgotten why Krishna also prodded them towards this war. </span></p>

<p class="sanskrti"><span style="font-size:14pt;" lang="PT-BR">Arjuna knows well what the shastras say- that the guilty must be punished and there is no sin is attached to it. He, as a Kshatriya is duty bound to punish them.</span></p>

<p class="sanskrti"><span style="font-size:14pt;" lang="PT-BR">Arjuna has forgotten that this war was for (re)establishing dharma. It was Krishna&#8217;s check on evil forces which will go on multiplying if not curtailed. </span></p>

<p class="sanskrti"><em><span style="font-size:14pt;">I worship Lord Hayaghreeva,  (the horse faced God, who is Narayana Himself), who is an embodiment of wisdom and bliss who appearance is akin to the texture of a spotless crystal and who is the source of all knowledge. </span></em></p>
<p class="sanskrti"><span style="font-size:14pt;">This is the famous Hayaghreeva stotram by Srimad Nigamanta Desikan swami. One who recites this will attain all vidyas he seeks without fail. The sawmy  was a witness to the carnage in SriRangam Temple by the invading Moslems. He was one of the two miraculous escapants in a gruesome massacre of thousands of hindus inside the temple complex itself.  He was one of the rarest who could directly converse with Hayaghreeva. The Lord himself gave him all the vidyas.</span></p>

<p class="sanskrti"><span style="font-size:14pt;" lang="PT-BR">The offspring of such a mixture of castes will not respect the Dharmic injunctions of both the parents&#8217; castes and will be loose in observance of them if at all he follows them.</span></p>
<p class="sanskrti"><span style="font-size:14pt;" lang="PT-BR">The result will be only falling into hell for both the family and its destroyers. Such people will lead the whole family and caste into destruction. Naturally , he will fall into lower worlds.</span></p>

<p class="sanskrti"><span style="font-size:14pt;" lang="PT-BR">Another consequence Arjuna fears , is that of his elders&#8217; fall from heavens. This is another of his genuine observations. <p class="sanskrti"><span style="font-size:14pt;" lang="PT-BR">Arjuna gives his fifth statement or observation. That with the loss of the man of the family, the woman, family  and in turn the society will come to ruin through the mixing of castes.</span></p>

<p class="sanskrti"><span style="font-size:14pt;" lang="PT-BR">I think the woman in this list will not take this remark of Arjuna lightly. That the woman will go astray once her husband perishes. But this is a situation when a whole race of men , some eighteen lakhs of them , are killed.  Then the woman will choose someone else from other varnas. </span></p>

<p class="sanskrti"><span style="font-size:14pt;" lang="PT-BR">The intermarriage of clashing castes will bring offsprings of mixed nature unfit for either of the varnas. Arjuna calls this as varna sankara:. </span></p>

<p class="sanskrti"><span style="font-size:14pt;" lang="PT-BR">A varna was a work based division of the population of the ancient Bharat which is cursed, maligned and castigated in public. We will see  Krishna's explanation for it when we come to the appropriate sloka.</span></p>

When they fall, the chaste traditions of the dependent family are lost. Since the family is transmitted via the man, his loss is irreparable. </span></p>

<p class="sanskrti"><span style="font-size:14pt;" lang="PT-BR">There is an abrupt end to the tradition with the death of the man in a family. As Sanatana Dharmis families are formed on a platform of Dharma, the man is   its protector. And Dharma  alone assures a man and his family the higher worlds.</span></p>

<p class="sanskrti"><span style="font-size:14pt;" lang="PT-BR">The family will fall wayward into adharmic ways once the traditions are lost since there will be none to guide them.</span></p>
